November news at SHK

Reserve a Table

And just like that, it’s November. Here are Sumiao Hunan Kitchen’s latest happenings and what to look forward to this month:

30+ NEW MENU ADDITIONS

Our chefs have been hard at work revamping our menu with dishes that are bursting with the bold flavors and fiery spices. From sweet and savory soups and Hunan tapas to chef specialties and daily caught seafood options, we’re continuing to shake up the Cambridge dining scene by bringing you the most exciting flavors and ingredients around. Highlights include: Kelp Sparerib Soup made with pearl barley, kelp, sparerib, ginger, chicken broth, green onion white pepper powder and salt ($5/$15); Steamed Fish Dumpling stuffed with Spanish mackerel, chives and salt ($12); Red Braised Lamb Pot with five spices, bay leaves, red yeast rice, sugar oil, chili bean paste and white beech mushroom ($36); Confit Pig Tail made with pig tail, star anise, cinnamon, chili bean paste and salt ($22); Stir-Fried Okra with Oyster Sauce ($18); and if you love our Yellow River Beef (don’t worry, it’s not going anywhere) you’ll appreciate this new twist: Yellow River Fish made with swai filet, white beech mushroom, pickled cabbage, green and banana pepper ($26).

HOT SIPS, WARM HEARTS

By popular demand – and to help keep your wallet happy and hands warm – we’re bringing back our $7 Hot Toddy this month. The foundation of our Hot Toddy is a warm lemon-honey black tea that is enriched by the depth of whiskey, a spirit that captures the earthy essence of autumn in New England. A housemade lavender-clove reduction is folded in and the cocktail is finished with a sweet dose of Disaronno Amaretto and garnished with a lemon twist.

Even sweeter? We’ll be featuring Hot Apple Cider for $4 all month long!

EAT WELL, DO GOOD

November marks Diabetes Awareness Month and we’ve once again teamed up with our friends at Joslin Diabetes Center’s Asian American Diabetes Initiative to bring attention to diabetes and its impact on millions of Asian Americans. For thirty days, we will feature a specially printed menu filled with 20 diabetes-friendly dishes, carefully selected by a Joslin nutritionist, that will have you eating healthily and deliciously.

We’ll also be donating 10% of proceeds from our diabetes-friendly brown and black rice sales during the month of November to the AADI!

GOBBLE-GOBBLE, GIVE THANKS

At SHK, we are all about three things: tradition, family and food – which is why we are all about Thanksgiving! From November 17-23, make a reservation and indulge in chef specials like mala turkey ($15) or crispy turkey ($30).
