It’s a brand new season here at Sumiao and we’re ready for crisp weather and all the warm dishes that go with it. We’re gearing up for some exciting things at the restaurant, so let’s dig right in!

New Seasonal Menu at Sumiao

As of this October, we’ll have officially switched over to our Fall/Winter menu. Get ready for hearty, filling, and warming dishes bursting with flavor and health benefits. You’ll recognize some dishes we’ve had in the past and be wowed with brand new dishes our incredible chefs have been working on. National Vegetarian Day

Our new menu has a great variety of vegetarian and vegan friendly dishes so that we can accommodate all different lifestyles. Since National Vegetarian Day is October 1, let’s celebrate with one of these beautiful dishes from our new menu.

Complimentary Mooncakes for Mid-Autumn Festival

On October 1, we also welcome the Mid-Autumn Festival. To celebrate, we’ll be giving out complimentary Mooncakes to our valued guests from 10/1-10/2. All guests who dine in at the restaurant as well as order online will receive one as part of our Mid-Autumn Festival tradition.

Happy Birthday Sumiao!

This month we’re wishing our founder, Sumiao Chen, a Happy Birthday on October 20th! She is an incredibly hard-working, talented, caring woman who has brought Hunan Chinese to Kendall Square in the most adventurous way. Here are 5 fun facts about Sumiao:

  1. By day, she is a pharmaceutical researcher in Kendall Square
  2. Her father was a famous painter and her mother a pianist
  3. Her creativity, a love for cooking, and a desire to bring Hunan cuisine to Boston led her to open Sumiao Hunan Kitchen
  4. Sticky Rice Cakes are her favorite guilty pleasure, as they remind her of growing up in China
  5. She met her husband in medical school in China and now have two talented sons
